pre-float meditation
People float for all sorts of reasons, but a common benefit of floating is relaxation. Meditation has shown to be very effective for relaxing the mind and body, both in the float tank and outside of it. This is a short meditation you can read anytime, or before a float. Give it a try if you'd like.
Read this text slowly, repeating each line to yourself in your mind

As I breathe deeply, my breathing slows and deepens
As I breathe deeply, I let my mind rest and relax
As I breathe deeply, I invite my body to settle in comfortably
I welcome this experience, exactly as it arrives, with each new breath
I celebrate everything that brought me to this moment
The difficult times, the delightful times, everything in-between
I am grateful for the me that is here now, reading and repeating these words
I am ready to embrace this experience, free from expectation
Allowing it to just be… whatever it wants to be
As I breathe in, I feel my belly expand
As I breathe out, I feel my belly contract
With each breath in, I breathe a little slower
With each breath out, I exhale a little longer
Breathing calms the mind and relaxes the body
And I become aware of where my body feels good
Where in my body feels warm, relaxed, comfortable
If I need to adjust, I can adjust
If I need to move, I can move
But I can also be still
And enjoy the feeling of stillness
My mind will wander, because that’s what minds do
And I welcome each new thought
As it shows me something new
Wherever my mind takes me, I know it’s right for me
And whenever I want to slow my mind down
I can return to my breathing and my body
Breathing long and slow, slow and deep
Relaxing back into the stillness of this moment
I welcome this experience
And am grateful to myself
For giving me this time
To relax, to rest, to recover
To be with my own thoughts
And see what’s on my mind
Thoughts will continue to come and go
They will pass by likes leaves floating down a stream
Like clouds blowing by in a wide open blue sky
I am not my thoughts—I am me
But I welcome each new thought, and the next
With wonder, gratitude, and curiosity
As I slow my breath, relax my mind
And float down my own stream of consciousness
I know that in the end, I will arrive
Exactly where I need to be
And that in many ways
I have already arrived
